Small Business Spotlight: Horse & Hound - Horseman's One Stop

In 2011, Horse and Hound celebrated 10 years in business. Owner Lisa Perry acquired the Carrollton business from its original owner in 2007 and has grown the tack shop by leaps and bounds. In two short years sales and inventory doubled. Horse & Hound has an extensive selection of tack, supplies, feed and gifts for horses, riders, and “hounds”. Perry focuses on customer service, providing a very personalized shopping experience. Customer requests are handled very quickly and special requests become new products. As a result of customer requests for feed products, ADM Alliance feed and nutrition products and Farmers Cooperative Association feeds were added to the inventory. They also specialize in Myler bits, a quality specialty bit. They offer their trained expertise as well as the lowest prices in the area on this item.
In January 2010, Horse & Hound relocated to a larger facility, doubling their space. In this new location, Horse & Hound partnered with a complimentary business, Virginia-West Boot & Art Gallery. Together, they created Horseman’s One Stop where everything under the sun is offered for the horse owner/enthusiast. Two other businesses have since become a part of the Horseman’s One Stop – Sew Personal Embroidery and Screen Printing and Trailer Country LLC.
Most notably, they do many educational seminars, events, contests, and sales. Ms. Perry’s community involvement includes horse rescues and assisting the humane society. There is never a dull moment at Horse & Hound. They continue to fill a special niche that is needed in the Isle of Wight horse community.
Horse and Hound is open 7 days a week and is located at 15111 Carrollton Blvd., Suite A, Carrollton, VA 23314. For more information call 757-238-9681 or visit www.horsehound.net.

Agriculture News - County Awarded Land Preservation Funds

Isle of Wight County was recently awarded $110,952 for FY 2012 in matching funding by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) for the Purchase of Agricultural and Forestal Conservation Easements (PACE) Program. This is the fifth round of funding for this program, and Isle of Wight is pleased to have received funding in each of the grant rounds. With previous years’ grant funds of over $1 million, the County was able to acquire the first conservation easements on over 900 acres of farm and forestland in February of 2010. The PACE Program is a voluntary land preservation program whereby landowners apply to have their development rights purchased by the County. In exchange, landowners agree not to develop their property through the use of a conservation easement placed on the land in perpetuity. For more information about the program please visit
